Street Safety

As a mom and neighborhood resident, Senator Chu is committed to ensuring our streets are clean and safe for the community to enjoy. That’s why in her first term, Senator Chu championed trailblazing e-bike legislation, which required greater safety disclosures to prevent deadly lithium-ion battery fires and regulated their use on sidewalks–keeping riders, pedestrians, and residents safer.

She also proudly voted for Sammy's Law, which gives New York City the ability to lower its speed limits to 20 miles an hour–named for a little boy named Sammy who lost his life crossing the street right here in Brooklyn.

And, Senator Chu has hosted 8 community street clean-up events throughout the district, clearing trash, and engaging the youth to help keep our neighborhoods a nicer place for everyone, for generations to come.
