Senator Chu at the scene of the Sunset Park Hammer Attack case

Senator Chu was elected to office during a time when hate crimes against the AAPI community were at an all-time high. Ensuring our community feels safe and people can go about their lives feeling protected is of the utmost priority to Senator Chu. That’s why she voted for record funding for State Police, supported a funding increase to the NYPD, and $35.8 million in funding for DAs to create and expand dedicated domestic violence units. She is committed to building community relationships with local law enforcement, while ensuring that kids and young adults have the pathways necessary to keep them off the streets.

In an effort to combat the rampant anti-Semitism and islamophobia that many members of the community face, Senator Chu also voted to add over 20 offenses to the list of eligible hate crimes so the perpetrators can be held accountable, and delivered millions of dollars overall to secure our religious schools and places of worship, because everyone deserves to feel safe at home.
